Artscape Online Artists' Market

The annual Artscape Artists’ Market will be held virtually from Friday, August 21 to Sunday, August 30, 2020. This digital opportunity will support artists, performers, makers and craftspeople across all artistic disciplines by providing a virtual platform for artist storefronts.

Artscape, Baltimore’s largest and most beloved annual arts festival, was originally scheduled for July 17-19, 2020. Due to the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic, large events throughout Baltimore City have been cancelled this summer. While the festival’s cancellation is disappointing, it is not devastating. In addition to the Artscape Online Artists’ Market, BOPA will highlight Artscape virtually through social media with photos and trivia during the original dates of the festival (July 17-19, 2020). BOPA continues to support the creative community throughout the summer with these virtual initiatives to keep the Artscape spirit alive.

Jury Process & Juror Bios

A panel of professionals in the fields of craft, fine art, fashion, and design will score each applicant’s submitted images/media and description of materials/techniques. The Artscape jury process is blind (jurors do not see artists’ names, hometowns, or histories of participating in Artscape). BOPA is thrilled to feature the following jurors:

Kim Bentley (Printmaker/Designer, Baltimore Print Studios)

A designer, educator, and printmaker, Kim lives in Baltimore, Maryland where she co-owns and runs a letterpress and screenprint studio called Baltimore Print Studios with her husband. In addition to the print studio, she is adjunct faculty at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) where she teaches Intro to Screenprinting, and she also takes on occasional freelance design work. Kim holds an MFA in Graphic Design from MICA, and a BFA in Illustration from the University of Delaware. As a designer and printer, she enjoys making work, whether designed with pixels on a computer, from handset type on an antique Vandercook press, or ink, screen and squeegee in the studio.

Kelvin Bulluck (Photographer)

Kelvin "Kel" Bulluck is a Maryland-based portrait photographer that specializes in fashion, editorial and beauty imagery. His work has been featured in various print and online publications such as Essence, Rolling Out Magazine, The Washingtonian, Baltimore Style Magazine, Dark Beauty Magazine, Fashion Bomb Daily and Bmore Art Journal, just to name a few. His style is best described as clean, while encompassing a spirit of simplicity, allowing viewers to fully take in his subjects.

Caprece Jackson-Garrett (Owner, Bonneau Caprece LLC)

Bonneau Caprece LLC offers an a la carte menu of services including strategic marketing and personal style consultations, public relations, event production and management, fine arts and cultural programming, public speaking, commentating and teaching. Caprece established Bonneau Caprece LLC in 2010 to provide her services on a retainer and project-by-project basis, in response to the workplace environment and clients’ downsized capacity, post-economic implosion of 2008.

Herb Massie (Visual Artist)

Herb Massie has been teaching at Baltimore Clayworks since September of 2000. He coordinates teaching sites for the Community Arts Program and is the site Manager for the Clay for All Center at the Zeta Center. He participated in and led public community art projects including “Discovering Community: The History of East Baltimore” at Dunbar Middle school, the “Memorial: Tiffany Square” project, “And still I Rise” at St. Frances Academy, and “The Parkway Community” mural, among many others. He teaches the senior adult classes for Community Arts as well as youth programs. He is co-directing the Community Arts program at Baltimore Clayworks.

April Wood (Metal Maker, Baltimore Jewelry Center)

In April’s sculpture, the viewer is confronted with the vulnerability and frailty of the body as well as the violence inherent in consumption and digestion. April’s material choices are designed to both attract and repulse, highlighting the beauty intrinsic in the visceral, the convergence of interior and exterior, and the connection between nourishment and sensual arousal. In an age of fast food, TV dinners, and disposable silverware, she creates artwork that has a sense of history, sensuality, and a direct connection to the physicality of the human experience.

Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize

The 15th annual Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize, an Artscape tradition, will continue virtually this year. Visit the Sondheim Artscape Prize page for more information about the Virtual Finalists’ Exhibition and Award Ceremony.

Artscape at Home

In addition to the Artscape Online Artists’ Market and the virtual Sondheim Artscape Prize Exhibition and Ceremony, BOPA will highlight Artscape at Home on social media during the original weekend of the festival (July 17-19, 2020), to recognize and remember what Artscape means to the arts community and the cultural fabric of the greater Baltimore region. Look for throwback photos, trivia, fan favorite moments and more on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Artscape fans can join in by tagging #ArtscapeAtHome to share favorite Artscape memories.
