Indoor or outdoor performances will include audience engagement throughout the concert as the audience gets to imagine how they might address similar conflicts in their own lives. The live show will also be accompanied by a live stream to engage an even larger audience for a richer and deeper dialogue.

The exhibition "Bearing Witness - an exhibition of the artists' tenacious view" will be virtually hosted online by Hamilton Arts Collective | Hamilton Gallery, located in northeast Baltimore, during the months of October and November 2020. The exhibition will be subsequently hosted in Hamilton Gallery in June 2021, or as soon as it is safe, as a physical exhibition open to the public. The exhibition will include the artwork and writing of guest artists Monica Youn (mixed media), Brennan Cox (painter), Chloe Irla (photographer), Donald Edwards (mixed media sculpture) and HAC|HG member artists who had their exhibitions cancelled due to the pandemic closures.

The current pandemic has shed light on generations of systemic inequities that nurture mistrust, self-loathing, hate, and violence. The project “A View from the Inside Out” uses the arts to rebuild empathy and community through discovery and skill sharing.

Bridget Parlato, Transmodern Age, Inc.
Bridget Parlato’s own poem “Plastic Land” will be adapted into a picture book. The book will include a series of mini-lessons pertaining to the book’s content as well as links to environmental learning sites. The story, lessons and resources will be available to Baltimore teachers, free of charge to augment their teaching. The information will be made available both physically as a book and digitally, allowing for either classroom or online learning.

John Henderson, Jr , Holy Nativity - St. John’s Development Corp
The proposed project will be the design of sixteen 16"x16" wood and fused-glass panels that will be inserted into a steel armature. The fabrication of the armature will measure 18" wide by 100" in height. The armature will be installed onto a concrete pad measuring 30"x30" square. On the inside of the armature, located at the top, will be a solar/powered light fixture. At night the solar light will illuminate the entire armature. Community residents will be engaged in the design and installation process. The project will be measure by the number of residents who participate in the design and installation.

Charm City Night Market serves as the physical manifestation of the city’s growing Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) population, 15,000+ strong. For one night in September, the Charm City Night Market activates historic Chinatown in Downtown Baltimore’s West Side with cultural food, arts, and programming. The Charm City Night Market stems from the hospitality of the past, while creating generational cultural exchange. Saturday, September 21, Historic Chinatown at 200 W. Park Avenue, 3pm-11pm.

High Zero Foundation presents the 22nd Annual High Zero Festival of Experimental Improvised Music in September 2020. The process begins in January of the festival year with nominations and voting, continues with coordination of numerous logistics throughout the spring and summer, and culminates in four nights of performances along with concurrent site-specific works—all within Baltimore City. High Zero is no ordinary music festival, and its methodology of showcasing seasoned luminaries of improvisation and up-and-comers alike, makes the festival consistently thrilling—and results in no fewer than 20 improvised world premieres created in front of the audience. Thursday, September 19-Sunday, September 22, Theatre Project at 45 W. Preston Street.

Little Italy Madonnari Festival is an annual event held in Little Italy in Baltimore, MD. The festival and organization supports and promotes the ancient tradition of Madonnari which are artists that create spectacular chalk drawings on the pavement made with soft pastels, pigment, and tempera paints. These beautiful works of art are ephemeral and will only last days until the coming rains wash them away. Each year, the festival has had from 50 to 100 artists from locations across Maryland and the world working side by side producing images 10 x 10 feet and larger on the street. Friday, September 6-Sunday, September 8, Little Italy, 11am-10pm.

Peabody at Penn Station features students from the Peabody Institute at The Johns Hopkins University program performances at Penn Station during rush hour three times per semester. The purpose is two-fold: for the students, it offers ample opportunity to perform in a variety of settings and spaces, affording them increased access to career development, networking and career mapping; and for the community, it provides increased access to high-caliber classical music performances on a regular basis. "See Also" is a devised, immersive work, created by a collaborative of artists in conjunction with the In the Stacks Performing Arts Series (fiscally sponsored by Strong City Baltimore) and supported by Submersive Productions. The piece will be installed and performed in Baltimore’s George Peabody Library as part of the In the Stacks performance series in the fall of 2019. Using original soundscapes, music, visual art installations, and live performance, artists will engage with audiences at the intersection of histories, mythologies and the immediate experience. Fall 2019.

Women's Performance Workshop
Artist: Jayme Kilburn – Community Partner: Strand Theater
This project opens up a space for women and trans community members in an effort to forge a supportive community while also creating personal narratives that can be publicly performed. With techniques employed by celebrated community-engaged theaters and feminist performance collectives, coupled with participant-based performance applications, the Women’s Performance Workshop will provide the opportunity for women and trans individuals to write, stage and perform their own narratives.

Ways of Seeing 
Artist: Sarah B. McCann – Community Partner: National Federation of the Blind
“Ways of Seeing” is an exhibition co-curated by Anil Lewis and Sarah McCann that invites artists to submit work that can be “seen” through all five senses. The exhibition will put work on view that questions the meaning of seeing, how people experience the world and the ways in which they work to understand, particularly those with a different experience. The curation will occur collaboratively by curators that are both blind and sighted through written descriptions of the art. The curators will also work directly with artists who will create new work for the exhibition. The exhibition will be accessible to blind and sighted audiences, providing an opportunity for an immersive art experience.                     

Charm City Night Market
Artist: Stephanie Hsu – Community Partner: The Chinatown Collective/Downtown Partnership of Baltimore
The Charm City Night Market is a one-night event that celebrates the history of Asian Americans in Baltimore City and brings together the existing dynamic fabric of local Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) restaurant owners, artists and performers. Held at the intersection of Baltimore’s historic Chinatown on Park Avenue and Lexington Street, the purpose of Charm City Night Market is to utilize an otherwise vacant space to celebrate and bring together Maryland’s largest gathering of multiethnic, multigenerational Asian Americans in one place at one time.

100 Year Symposium 
Artists: Scott Patterson – Community Partner: Belair-Edison Neighborhood, Inc. (BENI)
100 Year Symposium aims to serve neighborhoods in Northeast Baltimore through a unique experience that involves a futuristic opera and a robust discourse in homes/community gathering places about what 100 years into the future would look like. In partnership with Belair-Edison Neighborhood, Inc. (BENI), Astronaut Symphony, a contemporary ensemble led by pianist and composer Scott Patterson, will perform excerpts of the opera-ballet Afro Punk Ballet. Neighbors will be led in a meaningful discussion about what it means to be a steward of the future, in the intimate and familiar setting of a home/community gathering place. The 100 Year Symposium will be recorded and made available online. Additionally, the conversation will be summarized and shared with BENI and participants, with an emphasis on how to include elements of the conversation in the work being done by the community.

Bmore Family Theater
Artist: CJay Philip – Community Partner: Bmore Family Theater/Strong City Baltimore
Bmore Family Theater project will bring an ensemble of youth and professional artists into communities to present comic skits that educate families on disaster preparedness, fire safety, conflict resolution and literacy. Following each performance, families will learn about resources and receive materials provided by the project community partners. An outcome objective is audience members being able to correctly answer specific fire safety and disaster preparedness questions during the post-show Q&A.

The Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts (BOPA) is the Arts Council for the City of Baltimore. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, it produces festivals, special events and promotions for Baltimore City, addresses the needs of the arts community through arts and cultural activities, advocacy and support, and develops and administers funds, grant programs and community workshops. Through the Creative Baltimore Fund, BOPA grants funds to qualified artists, and arts and cultural organizations based in Baltimore City. 

Staff
BOPA grant programs are administered by professional staff responsible for ensuring an objective, equitable and transparent grantmaking process that meets BOPA’s mission and core values. BOPA staff members provide pertinent and uniform information to the public regarding the grant application process and ensure that program guidelines and requirements are applied consistently.
