The Peak Artists Series launched in April with an exhibition by Korean American artist Tae Hwang. “We named it the Peak Artists Series to highlight Baltimore-based artists whose work explores the duality of being born outside the U.S. while now residing in it," says curator Kirk Shannon-Butts.
Burrows comes to Baltimore from Kingston, Jamaica, by way of Brooklyn, New York, and now lives in the neighborhood of Harwood. He is also a poet, musician, and performer who uses his experience and talents in these areas to add depth to his series-based abstract paintings.

Primarily working with acrylic paint on canvas, the paintings in “The Third Future: A Self-Portrait” were all created between 2022 and 2024. These works reveal the fabric of Borrows’ life and identity, inviting viewers to experience their own introspective journey of self-portraiture. Through this exploration, Burrows aims to create a new language for self-portraits that is both deeply personal and universally resonant. The artist’s hope is that the audience walks away feeling more alive than when they entered.
